| Originally, many thought that the trade deficit with
China would lead to only job loss in the manufacturing sector,
however, it has had a continuing and increasing negative impact on
the US by causing job losses even in technology sectors and advanced
industry.
According to the EPI reports that 1.5 million jobs were lost to
Chinese competition between 1989 and 2003. During the same time the
US trade deficit with China rose from 6.2 billion to $124 billion.
Dr Robert Scott of he EPI reports that since 2001 Chinese
exports of sophisticated equipment requiring skilled labor is
growing much more quickly than its export of labor intensive, low
value products such as textiles.*
